Rent Is Too Damn High
This website makes a solid point - rent is definitiely too damn high. But with the missing pages, and the fact that the page titles actually read “blank title”, I just had to add it to the list.

There’s something about this site that I find genuinely terrifying, but I can’t quite explain what it is! Maybe it’s the overly repeating backgrounds, or the fact that parts of the text are already highlighted for you… and not just made bold, but actually given a yellow highlight… it’s like being back in school
I think this one speaks for itself to be honest…
Yep, it’s another appreciation society! I promise I’ll find some sites that fit into a new category soon!
All of these appreciation societies are giving me plenty of entries! I can’t believe they’re all still active to be honest.
Sticking with the Appreciation Society trend, today we have the Biscuit Appreciation Society… The home page actually looks okay, but as soon as you start to navigate the site, everything jumps to a different position!
So we just saw the Pylon Appreciation Society, now we have the Pork Pie Appreciation Society, with wondrous entires such as the Pork Pie Report, and the Five Tier Pork Pie Wedding Cake… *shudder*
There’s a Pylon Appreciation Society… who knew!? As far as I can tell, this site was done back in 2005, but it does have news entries dating up to April this year (2015). It reminds me of some of the Microsoft Word website templates you used to be able to find…
The site this is hosted on (https://www.palantir.net/) is actually really nice, but this Space Odyssey Internet Resource is clearly hidden within their system somewhere, waiting for them to find it…
Hundreds of sites had this exact style of layout about a decade ago, so this a real classic!
You can’t beat a good old flash website… oh wait, yes you can! I don’t overly mind flash sites, some of them were pretty impressive to be honest, but only some! The animating borders on this one actually slightly reminds me of the modern trend of having loading bars as part of the page (like YouTube with its loading bar right at the top of the page). The spinning and flashing text, and highly robotic voice over, are definitely not modern trends though!
This entire website is about inflatable stuff! Marquees, pubs, pillars, churches… even nightclubs. Therefore it is an absolute failure because there is so much potential for awesomeness! I’m tempted to hunt down a web developer on their behalf just to improve the site, because I really do want it to be so much better than it is. They have an inflatable pub!!
Evangelism… hmm… often considered to have some level of over the top preaching? Well, if that is the case, then you need an over the top website. Excessively long intro sequence with tense music? Guitar solo once you get past that? Someone actually addressing the viewer? Lots of flashing/moving images and text? And let’s not forget to include a long navigation menu where each link loads up some new music and audio, and a new flashy area? Yep, this site has all of that, and probably a fair amount more, but I didn’t want to keep looking!
I’m pretty much lost for words on this one… just go have a look and you’ll see why!
In this website’s defence, there is a little message on the page saying it was last updated back in 2001… but, that tiny little message is drowned out by the obvious repeating background image, flashing header, and horizontally scrolling text. Enough said really.
I’ve seen far worse sites than this one I have to admit! I actually quite like the simplicity of it - it was quite clearly a site to provide some information to it’s viewers, and nothing else. This one is up here because there’s a variation in width between the home page and all the other pages, and the contact page doesn’t exist. On the plus side, there’s a hangman game on a page that seems to be devoid of any width styling, and they’ve also made a custom 404 page that leads directly to their exercise list page – a nice idea but the page lacks the main navigation menu.
Have you seen a website that’s gone wrong? Send it on up so it can get added to the site!
(Or likewise, if you feel that one should be removed for whatever reason, please say)
Welcome to this showcase of older website designs still available to see on the web today.
Website design keeps evolving, and it’s happening very rapidly! It’s difficult to keep up - this site’s design is probably already out of date to be honest - but there are some sites out there that are happily growing cobwebs.
It’s important to look back on the evolution of websites; and while this site is certainly a light-hearted mockery of its content, it is in many ways also a fond reminiscence.
So please enjoy. And if you feel that a site should be added (or removed), please get in touch.
